5th ed Rules of the Game 6.6

Won't be too many of these posts since 6th ed is coming out soon.  Wonder how these posts will change while learning the edition.

This post covers blast markers and how they affect vehicles.

These posts are meant to help me remember rules so the next time I'll have a better understanding what's happening and make the game that much quicker.  As a friend of mine says "Repetition and Redundancy."  Great way to learn.

tl:dr

Use vehicle's armour facing shooter when centre of blast lands on the vehicle.

If centre of blast lands outside of vehicle use vehicle armour facing centre of blast.

Context.

Had a great battle last night.  BatRep coming.  A hard fought battle of Dark Eldar vs Imperial Guard.  Was happy, and surprised, how the new version of my Dark Eldar army handled the Imperial Guard.  Almost went as expected.

Dark Eldar first shooting round Razorwing fired its four Shatterfield Missiles at a battery of Basilisks.  Rulebook pg 60 The centre of the blast marker ends over the vehicle's hull. "The armour penetration roll is resolved against the Armour value facing the firer, regardless of the position of the marker..."

Note:  If using barrage weapons then use side armour.

Razorwings Shatterfield Missiles scattered off its target allowing the blast to hit the side of the intended target.  This resulted in 4 direct and 5 side hits against three Basilisks.

Rulebook pg 60 The centre of the blast marker ends outside the vehicle, but part of the marker covers its hull.  "The armour penetration roll is resolved against the Armour value facing the centre of the marker..."

To recap.  Blast markers do not use side armour, only barrage do.  Use armour valve facing firer.  Unless centre of marker lands outside of vehicle then use direction facing centre of marker.

Note:  If centre lands outside of vehicle Strength of weapon is halved rounded down.

Those curious.  One Basilisk was immobilised, so its wrecked (Rulebook pg 64), from the four missile shots.  Squad of three reduced to two.  So far battle going according to plan.
