First Impressions of 6th ed Chaos Daemons Codex & more codex creep

**This is a horrible post.  Don't even bother reading it**

Due to shipping and other logistics Fantasy Flight didn't get their copy of 6th ed Chaos Daemons til 10 days after release date.  This gives me a little more time to digest the book and developed first impressions.

Now that H2Lat40k has another author I've decided to copy IDICBeers method.  Thanks for the inspiration, IDICBeer.

JJ typing, The background part of Chaos Daemons 6th ed is surprisingly short.  The timeline makes up a little for its briefness (not enough in my opinion).  It felt rushed to get to the bio's and rules.  Appreciate how they put all the like daemons together.  Khorne all together, Tzeentch all together, etc.  Seems they got rid of the daemon deployment.  Not surprising every daemon has deep strike as a rule.

Every one of my hardcover codexes has had an issue with bowing.  The front cover convexes and pages respond as well.  Dave from Fantasy Flight mentioned that several of Fantasy Flights lower quality hardcovers do the same.  This happened in winter with low humidity.  Weird.

Honestly first impression from Chaos Daemon codex is Leadership.  Only 6 models have 9 Leadership.  There are some with 8 and it only gets worst.

Codex Creep a.k.a. Continuing being butt-hurt over Eldar:

Up first Dark Angels.

Dark Angels Codex 3rd ed pg 7 Deathwing Terminator 47 pts/model.

Dark Angels Codex 4th ed pg 82 Deathwing Terminator squad of five is 215. 43 pts a model.  Interesting note Assault Cannon increased by 10 pts.

Dark Angels Codex 6th ed pg 99 Deathwing Terminator squad of five 220.  44 pts a model.  Assault Cannon decreased by 10 pts back to 3rd ed of 20 pts.  They also gained three more special rules at the cost of 1 pt per model.

Eldar Codex 3rd ed pg 10 Fire Dragons 17 pts/model.

Eldar Codex 4th ed pg 62 Fire Dragons 16 pts/model.  One point decrease.  Weird.

Let's talk scouts.  Specifically Eldar vs Dark Angels.

Dark Angels Codex 3rd ed pg 8 Scout Squad see Codex: Space Marines. Space Marines Codex 3rd ed pg 10 Scout Squad 13 pts a model.

Dark Angels Codex 4th ed pg 83 Scout Squad five for 80 pts.  16 pts a model.  They gain two more special rules at the cost of 3 pt increase a model.

Dark Angels Codex 6th ed pg 97 Scout squad five for 60pts.  12 pts a model.  They gain one more special rule with each model costing 4 pts fewer.

Eldar Codex 3rd ed pg 11 Rangers 19 pts/model.  Three special rules.

Eldar Codex 4th ed pg 64 Rangers 19 pts/model.  Three special rules.  Bit of an oddity that a squad remains same point cost across multiple editions.

I doubt 6th ed Eldar Rangers won't be anywhere near Dark Angel Scouts.  GW won't reduce the point cost of a Ranger to be the same as a Dark Angel Scout with the same number of special abilities.

3rd ed Dark Angels Scouts vs 3rd ed Eldar Rangers

           WS   BS   S   T   W  I   A  Ld   Sv
Scout     4     4     4   4    1   4   1   8     4  13 pts model 2 special rules.
Ranger   3     4     3   3    1   4   1   8     5  19 pts model 3 special rules, cover save.

4th ed Dark Angels Scouts vs 4th ed Eldar Rangers

           WS   BS   S   T   W  I   A  Ld   Sv
Scout     4     4     4    4   1   4   1   8     4  16 pts model 4 special rules.
Ranger   3     4     3   3    1   4   1   8     5  19 pts model 3 special rules, cover save.

6th ed Dark Angels Scouts

Scout     3     3     4   4    1   4   1   8     4  12 pts model 5 special rules.

Narric got me thinking about Space Marine Terminators and their price.  Let's compare them against another elite unit.  Also let's compare them against Terminators of olde.

Space Marine Codex 3rd pg 8 Terminator 42 pts/model.

Space Marine Codex 4th ed pg 31 Terminator 40 pts/model.  Terminators are experiencing a small reduction in points.

Space Marine Codex 5th ed pg 136 Terminator 40 pts/model.  This surprises and pleases me that they remain the same points.

  1. Uh.. I am not sure where this is going but it doesn't seem to have much to do with the Daemon Codex and until a 6th edition Eldar Codex is released comparing old Eldar Codices to Dark Angels across 2 or 3 editions seems very arbitrary... look forward to more on the Daemons and when Eldar come out, look forward to that, but yeah, that was more of a random rant than a helpful analysis... - J

    1. JAHATCH28, completely agree. Not terribly helpful and quite random rant with no real point.

I'm trying to not go on about Eldar til their codex.
