Astra Militarum Leman Russ Punisher Completed

This guy went a lot faster than expected.  Here he is with some extra detail.

JJ painting, this is an Astra Militarum Leman Russ Punisher commission for Mike.

Turns out Vallejo Model Air can also develop some issues.  Haven't used the gold in quite sometime.  Sediment build up and caused some issues laying down paint.

  1. I had an entire airbrush class talking about how awful airbrush ready paints are =/. Misterjustin demonstrated with a brand new, unopened box of airbrush ready paints. about 40% of the pots were unusable due to clumping and various issues.

Sucks since I have about 14 model air paints.....sigh!

    Tank looks great though!

    1. Where was the airbrush class? Most Vallejo Model Air I'm able to make it better. This time I tried something different and wow that created a mess. Should've known better because I tried the same thing with the red. Will say filtering the paint really helped. Airbrush needs a majour cleaning now.

      Thanks for the compliment.

    2. I took a class with Misterjustin. (secret weapon president). Two actually. One on airbrush, one on weathering.

In the airbrush class he talked about the airbrush paints, and how you lose control by using them, and their lack of consistency. Then proceeded to tell us not to do what he does (he used them to save time). So he opens a new batch, starts using them, and one has clumps floating in, one was nearly solid, and out of 5 pots, 2 were usable.

He then proceeded to teach us how to thin paints properly with the airbrush, to maximize your consistency and prevent clogging. Was crazy informative!

    3. Read a post from Mister Justin on Ron's From the Warp blog. Would really like to meet him someday.

One thing I like about making airbrush paint on the spot it usually the shade you need. Still working on touch-up paint. Say you make Mechrite Red into airbrush form. Well it doesn't have the exact same colour as the pot or wet pallet. It is slightly off. The airbrush form of the red is a different hue. Which ultimate leads up to multiple layers of glaze hoping it works out to be the same colour.

Sounds like it was a terribly fun class. Was this at a convention?

    4. He's a great teacher. Really laid back. Starts the class with some bob ross. Both classes were full of great tips. I hope to make use of them asap. Classes were at Nova Open in VA.

I still have to learn all the intricacies of the airbrush. Only time will tell as I try my best!

    6. Aye. It was thursday through sunday. Was a great time. I didn't play in any tournaments, just hung out and met people, and took painting classes (and lots of photos). Had myself an absolute blast. Going to actually play next time :).

    7. Very cool. Saw some people I know armies on an armies on parade post.

Would be extremely fun to take painting classes and take to fellow commission artists. Which I'm sure there are many in attendance.
