You guys threw a party for me? You shouldn't have. |
Bryan and I met at Fantasy Flight for a game. Haven't played since testing out his Grey Knights for pre-adepticon tourney they held back in March.
Mission: Annihilation. Deployment: Dawn of War. CD (Chaos Daemons) won roll and decide to deploy second. Just what I was looking for. Wanted to have at least two full rounds of making scarabs before the game begins.
Necron list:
Imotekh, Orikan, 2 Cryptek Transmorgrification, 10 warriors, 5 warriors, C’Tan with grand illusion and writhing worldscape, other C’Tan with Entropic touch and Time’s Arrow, 2x 10 scarabs, Monolith and 2x 3 spyders. Proxying a couple of things since I don’t have all 6 of my new spyders yet nor Crypteks. Wraiths are Spyders and Pariahs are Crypteks.
Chaos Daemons list:
Skarbrand, Bloodthirster, two daemon princes, 2x 10 bloodletters and 8 blood crushers.
Plan was to use Orikan to make all movement, deep striking, to be difficult. Since difficult is dangerous for deep strikers C’Tan makes already dangerous 1 or 2 instead of a 1. Bryan kept checking the codex. It’s pretty nice.

Our stage of entertainment this evening. Bryan won roll off and decided to deploy and go second.
**
Necrons Deploy. Orikan with 5 warriors. 10 warriors by themselves. Plan is to castle. It was a great plan, no it really wasn't.
**
Top of first. Entire Necron army comes on board. Attempt to grab the corner to castle in my second turn. I push my models out so the daemons have to travel that much further when I move back toward the corner in the second turn. Spyders generate 6 scarabs. Unit of 10 is now 16. So far going according to plan. End up taking a wound from a 1. Monolith will be a tempting target for some monstrous creatures. With C'Tan's Writhing Worldscape it would hopefully become dangerous. It did, but nothing happened because I was foolish.
**
Bottom of first. CD get preferred group and start deep striking down. Lost about 3 bloodletters to dangerous 1 or 2. Loses some more running into difficult, now dangerous, for cover in the back of the pic. Flesh hounds behind tower lose one from the deep strike/writhing worldscape. They run into cover. Great idea for the daemons. Deep strike down then run in the shooting phase.
**
Top of second. Spyders generate another 6 scarabs and they assault the daemon prince in the middle. Cryptek uses tremor stave on flesh hounds. Imotehk gets lightning. Only one strike against flesh hounds. Have 22 scarabs charging the daemon prince. Will lose some bases. Will get a lot of attacks against the prince. Simon later taught me scarabs have 4 attacks base, not 3. Grr. Probably wouldn’t have made a difference. Out of all the attacks with rerolls, because of Skarbrand, only wounded prince 7 times. Stripping armour save, prince makes 6 invul saves taking a single wound. Disappointing. This thinking error will be the first of many in tonights game.
**
Bottom of second. Flesh hounds do damage to 5 warrior squad. Fail leadership. Hounds don’t catch me. Orikan and Warrior run back 11". Won't like the next result. Skarbrand sees a huge party behind the trees and wants to get in on the fun, if you know what I mean. There were 18 scarabs attacking. Now there’s one. I’ve got the prince and skarbrand exactly where I want. Anyone know any other good jokes?
**
Close up of H2H in CD turn. He looks like those chocobo's I leave in the middle of the forest for hours as I do some experience grinding. Scarab does a wound against deamon prince then has to make some 18+ fearless saves.
**
Top of third. Generate scarabs for the next part of the army “plan” if one can call it that. Seriously, I thought this was going to work? The ball is bouncing down the hill and I have to race to catch up. I can’t. Its gaining speed. Perhaps there’s another shiny ball to chase down a steeper hill. I did hit the blood thirster with tremor stave though. Probably should’ve focused my squads firepower on the threat in front of them. See close up pic. C'Tan assaults Flesh Hounds. The one in b2b (base-to-base) failed his Initiative test due to Time's Arrow and disappears.
**
Close up of some of the fun I'm about to have.
**
Bottom of third. Blood Thirster takes down Monolith. It’s wrecked. Writhing worldscape. Good thing that went according to plan. Skarbrand assaulted C'tan. Prince assaulted warriors and Cryptek. Skarbrand didn't fail his Initiative to be removed from the game due to Time's Arrow. This going to hurt.
**
Top of fourth. Thought about assaulting with scarabs. They're 22 strong. Decide instead of assault with worldscape C'Tan, yeah that was smart. The plan with the wrecked Monolith won't go through. Have to learn to stick to the plan.
**
Bottom of fourth. Prince and Skarbrand take on C'Tan and they remove it. Four winged monstrous creatures are the menu. Might need an extra drink. This is going to be tough to choke down.
**
Top of fifth. Thought about pulling back all my spyders into the corner and bubbling/shielding them with 22 scarabs. Then I would just generate more scarabs and hope to survive til the end of the game. Will do that next time. I wanted to see what would happen with 6 spyders a wound each against one daemon prince. Have to remember that Init 2 and that spyders don't have invul sv. Silly me.
**
You know what they say, best laid plans of mice... Close up of what is the end. Had plenty of room to compact everything in the corner.
**
Bottom of fifth. Two princes and skarbrand take out scarabs without a challenge. Had 1 scarab left again. Yeah I decided to roll 18+ saves fearless because it was so much fun the first time. Mostly like deja-vu.
**
Roll the dice to see if the game ends to avoid being tabled. 3 pops up. Yep time to get tabled.
Top of sixth. This is the party the daemons were throwing for the last Cryptek
Lose 1-13 KP. Necrons vs Chaos Daemons. Buddy Simon asked me what I used when Bryan and I were debriefing. Told him Scarabs. He whinced and said "Eeew, that's bad, never use scarabs against daemons. Armour and troops yes, not daemons." I replied "Really? Can you tell me what would've happened because I haven't a clue." Bryan laughed. There's that sound mentioned earlier. Laughing at my "awesome plan" to take out daemons with Orikan/C'Tan terrain trick and Scarabs doing all the heavy lifting. Haven't been tabled in awhile.
Cryptek has ever-living so I was hoping to roll 5+. Yeah that turned out well.
Bryan thinks I would've had a better chance splitting my army one in each corner. I personally don't think it would've mattered. He's convinced. Next time going to do his deployment.
Somewhat traditional theory against the demons is to not engage in assault with them to start and shoot them as long as possible, at least the Khorne versions. So you contract into the corner and get 2 turns of shooting before you are assaulted.
ReplyDeleteYou might have been able to do a similiar thing with bubble wrapping with scarabs and then shooting in your turn. Rinse and Repeat.
