These bits went extremely fast. Probably took longer to prep them than to paint them.
JJ typing, so you have a bunch of sponson weapons and you want to use them. Certainly don't want to glue them into their mountings. Variety is the spice of life. Fortunately as Mike and Lane said, you don't need magnets for leman russ sponson weapons. Should only have to base the male end of the sponson weapon and it will stay put.
Tools used:
Paint stick from DIY store
Pin vice
Paper clips
Bits
Paint
|
First problem: attaching these weapons to this part of the sprue. Poster tac or paper clips. |
|
Since I almost have a fetish for pinning, it is! Conveniently there are enough plastic circles for the ten weapons. |
|
Little drilling and inserting paper clips and its a weapon mount. |
|
Drill through the end of the weapon people won't be seeing. |
|
Insert and... |

done. |
|
Based black. |
|
Some basecoating. |
|
Little splash of colour... |
|
and you're done! Can paint all sponson weapons like this in less than 30 mins. |
Extra step: added a little bit of detail per client request.

I appreciate your pinning fetish! :) Recently I have started hot gluing (low temp) my bits to my painting stick. With a tiny dab of cool glue they will pop off easily, but stay put while i paint.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to H2Lat40k, Tim.
DeleteThanks. Do you use a hot glue gun? Maybe after it cools down a bit. What is cool glue? You have me quite interested.
Thanks, I really enjoy your blog by the way.
ReplyDeleteMy glue-gun has a temperature setting on it, and I find switching to a low setting to produce a lot less issues with melting foam, burning myself etc... Also when glueing on the paint stick I lay out ten dabs of glue and then go back to the beginning and press the piece on. Much less likely to stick too hard. So by cool glue I guess I just meant "less hot" glue :)
Thanks for the kind words.
DeleteTo release the bits you apply more glue which melts the glue holding the bit and bit pops right off?
Nah I just pop it off. Usually doesn't stick too hard to the plastic, if it does I just carve it off with a knife.
