Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 8 (Yes, more Chainmail)

Had a little bit of time to paint last night, or this morning depending how you look at it.

3 of 6 squads Chainmail on metal bits done.
Some could sum this evening up with "there will be blood."  Great movie by the way.  If you haven't seen it please give it a viewing.

Eldar Harlequin Shadowseer

Exactly as hoped.  Started and finished painting Shadowseer in one sitting.  Quite pleased.

Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 7

Had a couple of hours to paint my Purifiers after finishing the Shadowseer.

Chainmail for metal bits.

How to paint checker pattern

Here are a couple of pics how to paint checker patterns.  Hoping to do a few more and get more contrasting colours.

eBay Fraud Alert: Stolen Army + Reward

**Reposted from Spikey bits**

My buddy, and fellow Wrecking Crew member Hod, recently got hit with a double whammy. Not only was his army stolen after the sale, but he lost the money for it as well though Paypal. Leaving his holidays not so cheery at all.

Sad part is, he was only selling the army to help get money for the holidays in the first place.

Eldar Harlistar/Invisi-council revised (still being revised)

During the first game with this army I was coming up with ways to make it better.  Particularly more efficient.  First was deployment.  Second was focusing its strength.  Wasn't til the BatRep, battle report, was put up did I learn I didn't swap out Eldrad's powers correctly.  As always, giving credit where it is due.  Invisi-council is Fritz's creation.

Closest pic available presently to represent new tactic.
Anon 5:11pm has dropped some schooling on me.  Time to change some things.  I feel extremely foolish.

6th ed Rules of the Game: Abaddon, Charging through Difficult terrain, Ghosthelm (Perils of the Warp) and Witchblade

Here are several things I picked up from the game last weekend.

Howling Banshees are Harlequins.  Still kicking myself for forgetting my clowns at home.

Your model has to be removed from the table

Recently I was playing against Chaos Space Marines.  Guy had these Obliterators at the edge of the table.  Deployment was Hammer and Anvil.  I've seen him use these before.  Last time was during a 3k battle some months ago.  They were on the second floor of a building.  Didn't move all game and shot occasionally.  One of the points I gave him was to have his Obliterators at the 24" deployment line.  "Yes they will take shots, they maybe removed but what are they doing at the end of the table?"  I asked.

These are my Golden Boys.  They are always in my army lists.  Asdrubael Vect.  Olonora my Eldar Farseer.  Orikan the Diviner.  Would put my Master of the Forge up but haven't used my Noir Engels enough to justify it.  Same goes for Crowe, haven't used him at all.  Will probably end up changing my Grey Knight list the more I play them.

Random modelling tips

Had a few things I've been meaning to do model-wise and a little bit of time last night to do them.  Really need to get back on the wagon and start doing Shawn's Eldar again.  Hopefully will start and finish his Shadowseer this weekend.  Preferrably in one sitting.  Really looking forward to that model.

Onto random tips.

Say you magnetized your weapons and not sure where to place them.  You certainly don't want to lose those little bits.  Glue magnets to the base.  If the base is already finished put a magnet on the stem.

Nemesis Force Halberd or Nemesis Daemon Hammer? Decisions, decisions.

Only had a bit of time to finish up magnetizing these last night.  Had a surprisingly fun time with family.  I give credit to my Love for the enjoyable time.  Spent some quality time with her aftewards talking about the blog and my, ours if you ask me, future.

Finally done.  Surprised how well they turned out.  Nemesis Force Halberds when facing an army with few vehicles.  Psyflemen or Dreadknights will take care of them.

Merry pre-Boxing Day (Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 6)

Had a couple of hours to work on my Purifiers yesterday before visiting my Loves family for Christmas Eve.  Today we hit mine.  Turkey day is far easier.  Two families one day.  No driving all over God's winter earth like Eve and Christmas.

From H2Lat40k to you: Have a relaxing day doing exactly what you want.  I would be painting if I could.  SG owns these pics.  Used without permission.  No challenge intended.  Out of the 11.2G of SG pics I have only 5 albums were winter/christmas related.  Thought there would be more.

If Santa brought you presents may they be filled with 40k stuff or whatever table crack you prefer.  My sister wanted to get me something.  Suggested either Draigo or Coteaz.  Not holding my breathe though.

Was able to put a couple of hours into my Grey Knights Sun.

Rules of the Game 6th ed: Wrecked, Insane Heroism and Plasma Grenades

Picked a few things and finally something I've been waiting for quite some time occurred.

Chaos Chosen Space Marine all by himself in the world.

12.12.22 1850 Harlistar/Invisi-council vs Chaos Space Marines

Note: I used Psychic Powers incorrectly so I deem that I lost lost this game.  Take from the Battle Report, BatRep, what you will.

Set up a game with Shawn a couple of days ago.  Turns out one of his boys wanted to play me.  So there was a change of plan.  What I thought was going to be an Eldar vs Eldar game turned into an Eldar vs Chaos Space marines.  Little worried that it would change my game plan.  Invisi-council is coined by Fritz.

Abaddon eyeballs a squad of Guardians near an objective.

Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 4

First of two four day weekends.  Planned on painting all day yesterday but Shawn had a better idea.  Get together for a game.  Deal.  Woke up.  Had a couple of hours to paint.  Enough time to do more detail on the Purifiers.

Blood Red, Evil Sunz Scarlet, for final Grey Knight accent.

How to Keep Transport Doors Up

Do you have a problem keeping it up?  Yeah, I'm talking to you, Stormraven.  It's ok to admit there's a problem.

This door gave me so much more problems with than the previous two.

Model Holder

I've been reluctant to try this.  Ron at From the Warp and several other painters use a similar method.  Instead of holding the model/base with risk of touching wet paint or rubbing paint off they affix the model to a handle of sorts.

Ballistic Skill of 6 or Better vs Snap Shots at Flyers

Bryan came up with a great question regarding Snap Shots and high Ballistic Skill.

12.12.19 2500 Dark Eldar vs Black Templars

Finally another big game.  Bryan came up with the idea last week.  Followed through today.  Well worth the wait.

Vect stares down some power armour marines and a Dreadnought.

How to Paint Eldar Glyphs

Figured since I was painting Shawn's Eldar Craftworld symbol on Yriel's banner in lieu of Iyanden I'd take some pics and show my process.  It should be noted this is like "how to paint free hand."

Used a 3/0 Princeton round 1.50$ brush for this.

Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 3

Really glad I resisted the urge that was tearing me all day down at work.  Painted for about 7 hours last night.  Once I was done with Yriel went right back to my Purifiers.  Need them done by March 18.

Colours are working together nicely.

Prince Yriel completed

Total time painting him, 9 hours.

Decided to break convention and use Caledor Sky for something other than orbs/bulbs/waystones.  Top corner banner Caledor Sky.

Grey Knights Purifiers painting part 2

Had a little bit of time to paint last night.  Anytime spent painting now only reduces stress when it gets closer to Dark Star GT time.

Blood Red accenting done.

How to Revive Your Paint Pot

I usually pull paint directly from the pot.  When I need to water it down for a job do so then.  I'd say about 90% of my painting is directly from the pot.  I have an idea about pots and thinning but haven't tried it yet.

While accenting Purifiers my Storm Blue (from more than a decide ago) wasn't looking good.  Since I made another 40$ purchase for an airbrush, I have yet to use, figured I'd use one of the things I bought for it now.  Turned our really well.

Grey Knights Purifiers Painting part 1

Finally time to paint these guys.  Been looking forward to this for sometime.  Not having these guys glued to their bases has really bothered me.  Feel like they are a model now.

Grey Knight bases completed

Power went out at my place last evening.  Just as I was going to put my undercoated Grey Knights on their bases.  Grabbed the fewest things I needed to base them and headed to Fantasy Flight.  It felt great to get out of the apartment.

Notice something wrong with this Knight of the Flame?

How to Paint Free Hand

Painting free hand is difficult for some.  I want to tell you because you are a modeller and/or painter you can free hand.  Little truth about me.  My hands shake.  I could go into those reasons but it would only become maudlin.  I have faith in you.  I know you can free hand paint.

There's only one side

Grey Knight Psyflemen part 2 a.k.a. pegging Psyflemen

Get your minds out of the gutters.  I know you want to, or be, pegged.  You twisted F.  This is not the pegging you thought of.  So go ahead and relax in disappointment.

Instead of magnetizing I decided to pin the psyflemen.  Figured why would I want models placed on the bases.  Then remembered something Shawn said about my Dark Eldar Raiders.

How to remove Detail on Finecast (Resin)

This is the first "how to" where I actually tried different techniques.  Figured others would appreciate the thoughts as I used different tools to remove the relief.

Prince Yriel part 3

I love painting Independent Characters.  It is not the detail of the model.  Nor the pose.  It must be the demand the model places on the painter.  That demand meaning there's only one of them.  They have to stand out.  They command attention on the table.  Yriel is a great model to paint.  Looking forward to painting mine.

Eldar Prince Yriel part 2

During our game last Tues Shawn requested Yriel to be painted next.  Asked him if he wanted it painted as it is in the codex.  Shawn looked at the pic and said "Yeah, but in the colours of my Eldar."  Easily done.

Grey Knights Rhinos part 3

Last Rhino to put together before basecoating.  Painting is so close I can taste it!

Last side doors.  Finally figured out how do this easily.  Has to happen on last set of doors.  Next time I do this I'll probably forget how easily I did this.

Imotekh's Lord of the Storm lightning can hit Swooping Monstrous Creatures and Zooming Flyers

Allow me to start this post with: This is something I've been looking for quite sometime.  Finally found it.  Quite pleased.

Grey Knights Rhinos part 2

Had a little bit of time to model last night.  One Rhino left.  Will finish it before starting Yriel tonight.

Following instructions is good.  Tracks are easier to put on before putting body together.

How to clean resin (Forgeworld and Finecast) a.k.a. Use soap, ya dirty hippy

There are many that know about the release material used for molds.  Basically each mold is lubricated with a material that prevents the cast from sticking to the mold so it can be removed easily.  Akin it to vegetable oil when making an omelet.

Remember when washing your bits always listen to your iPod.  Also when washing your bits make sure you use soap.  The one stray piece outside the bucket is the piece which will be used to compare wash and unwashed bits for painting.  Not nearly as a climatic as I wanted.

How to make Moving Doors Redux [Update]

**Warning some planning may be required**

This requires patience and firm hand.  It should be noted making the plastic doors move is far easier  than Forgeworld Chapter doors.

Grey Knights Rhinos part 1

Last three models before painting.

Months ago consolidated two Razorbacks into one box for space.

Harlequins completed

Finally done with these guys.  As I was getting close to the end my patience for painting them was quickly dissolving.

Every clown received a little Surf Aqua.

The Dark Side Won /hangs head in shame

Nemesis Dreadknights have arrived!  Haven't finished putting together my Grey Knights and already have a new, new Grey Knight list.  When Grey Knights were released the box of the Dreadknight had me intrigued.  Then when I saw the model in person it made me want to vomit.

Eldar Harlequins part 4

Only had an hour to paint last night.

Fusion Pistols Blazing Orange.

Purifiers Alabaster Armour

Really getting in the mood for Grey Knights.  Doing some reading = measuring twice, cutting once/double dotting the "I's" double crossing the "T's"  That's when I read something.

Grey Knights codex 5th ed pg 31 "Brilliant spark becomes unstoppable conflagration, and through this inferno none save Purifiers can walk unharmed, alabaster armour gleaming as their blades dispatch their charred and blackened foe."

Used without permission.  No challenge intended.  This guy does great work.

6th ed Rules of the Game: Out of Sight, Weapon Destroyed and Tesla Arc

Learned a couple of things and finally something I've been waiting for since reading 6th ed happened.

The Dark Knight Rises

Marion Cotillard, damn!  Taking most of the evening off.  Enjoying a new release on blu.  Byerly's 5$ sushi Wed, spicy tuna if you're interested.  Perhaps I'll finish the Harlequins tonight.  Shawn wants Yriel done next.

12.12.4 1500 Necrons vs Eldar (school yard beating)

Had a great game with Shawn last night.  Yeah it was a school yard beating.  There were few highlights for the Necrons.  The pic below being one of them.  Other than that my Necron army was the ball Shawn's Eldar kicked up and down the school yard.

Ah, all those familiar places.  Avatar and Eldrad in the middle of another mosh pit.

Eldar Harlequins part 3

Thinking I'm putting too much time in these models.  Shawn isn't looking for anything fancy.  Figured I'd put another checker pattern on one of them.  Then finish them off with Surf Aqua, clients colour of choice.

All power weapons painted Enchanted Blue.

How to make Psyflemen

Quick post how to make magnetized Psyflemen.  Kit bash, baby!

Grey Knight Psyflemen part 1

Normally I do these models last.  Guess I was excited to do them.

Thanks to Shawn for buying me these.  Thanks to Natfka for the tip regarding the cheapest way to get twin-linked Autocannons.

Grey Knight Purifiers part 5

Quite pleased.  Last squad.

Bits for squad Alpha alpha.
