Rules of the Game 6th ed: Penetrating hits and Grenades

Picked up a couple of rules from Wed night game.

Penetrating Hits 40k6 pg 74

If a penetrating hit was scored, the vehicle not only loses 1 Hull Point, but also suffers additional damage.

Context: Black Templar Dreadnought was shooting at Ravager and scored a Crew Stunned result.  Since I haven't used vehicles much in 6th ed this was something new for me.  Thought it was just glances.  Nope, Bryan taught me this. P.S. This one made me feel really foolish.

Grenades; Vehicles and Monstrous Creatures 40k6 pg 61

A model can use such a grenade as a Melee weapon, but can only ever make one attack, regardless of the number of Attacks in its profile or any bonuses.  Different grenades have different profiles when used in this manner, as explained below.

Context: Vect was assaulting a Dreadnought.  That is when Bryan reminded me about only using one grenade in H2H, hand-to-hand.

  1. I just want to take a moment and say how much I appreciate Rules of the Game blog posts. Often times I learn something new.

    1. Same here. Even though I've been playing a while, its refreshing to see this short and to the point reminders or things to think on.

    2. Thank you, Tyson. These posts are some of the most popular posts on the blog. Thanks for the kind words. "its refreshing to see this short and to the point reminders" never considered it. They are short and to the point. I find nothings worst than to bloviate when explaining a rule.

If you can't provide a resource easily referenced in a gaming book I'm not interested. No 4+'ing it. It's ran this way til contrary rules written is provided. I'd rather lose 10 mins of a game looking up a rule than accidentally play the rule wrong.

What upsets me the most is when the other player doesn't bother looking up a rule or looking through the book I hand them. But instead consults other players whom are not involved in the game and won't look up the rule either.

Hell that is one of my favourite things to do. Some bystander is watching the game and interjecting rules here and there. I ultimately hand them the book which shuts them up for sometime so I can enjoy the game with the guy I'm playing with.

Side note. Perhaps it's the way I handle the situation or offer the book. People don't like being handed a book to look up a rule. Will have to work on a softer way to that.

  2. I'm really glad Suijin asked for context with these posts. Think it helps a lot.
